My Future Dreams

As I reach the end of my high school years, I am forced to finally consider my future. The constant questions of "What do you want to do after high school?" from my friends and family have done nothing but stressed me out. I never really thought about what I wanted to do in my future except for in kindergarten, when I replied with "Dancer" or "a pop star." I have been narrowing down my interests throughout the past years and I've come to a few decisions. I am not a math, science or even business type of person so those are out of the picture. I have always been into the arts and psychology. Those are the classes and courses I've always loved the most. I hope to go to university for sociology as I am very interested in this study, after comparing it to psychology and anthropology. I enjoy the way people interact with one another as well as how they've become who they are or how their adolescence has shaped them to the person they are today. As for after university, who knows what I will end up doing. The only thing I am sure of is that the job I want to do is something to benefit others, rather than myself. Last year, I did a co-op placement in a grade one class for half the year. It was probably the most frustrating, challenging but most amazing experience. It taught me how to become a more patient person and how to deal with certain situations. I remember the feeling of such accomplishment the minute I taught a lesson and every kid finally understood. The fact that I was the one who was teaching them something they'll need for the rest of their life such as reading or math made me feel very honoured. Though I am not sure of what I will encounter in my future, I am sure that whatever job or field I end up pursuing, I will be happy and hopefully feel that same sense of accomplishment everyday.
